DC is back and there are big plans afoot.
Two years on from his masterful debut project, In The Loop, the South East London rhymer is back with a typically cool-headed rap workout with production from Emil. DC’s matter-of-fact storytelling is still is as sharp as ever, but this time Emil’s opted for a few light gospel touches to give it a little extra shine.
It’s the first in what promises to be a more consistent release schedule for DC with talk of an EP and possibly more in the pipeline—although he’s playing his cards close to his chest for now.
In the meantime, the new single lands with a new VHS-style visual directed by LX. In it, DC takes us on a guided tour around South East London, created as a sort of day-in-the-life documentary. Low-key and uncluttered, it’s the perfect visual for DC’s whole character.
“‘Mains’ is an honest representation of where my mind is at, at the moment” says DC. “It’s a mixture of my current thoughts and feelings about my life, things that are going on around me, and glimpses of what I think of the future. The songs make me screw up my face in enjoyment; from the hard-hitting lyrics to the production, everything meshes well perfectly. The process of making it was longer than I thought it would be, mainly down to me being a perfectionist. But I’ve been working with Emil for a while now and I had faith that we would be able to make the vision I had for the song a reality. And we did just that.”
While we wait to hear more from DC, peep the visuals for “Mains” at the top and be sure to add the song to your playlists.
