Cardi B has been on the defensive against people claiming she doesn't deserve a Grammy since her project was named Best Rap Album at the 61st Grammy Awards.

This coverage continued when the rapper decided to explain on Twitter the effort she put into making Invasion of Privacy.

On my album I showed different sides of me.From my intro talking about my pass.To living my best life inspiring people.Relationship songs while I was going thru my own relationship drama to shaking ass like Bodak & that ASS .Every song went platinum! I did it all while I was pregnant.Throwing up, drowsy, terrible colds and in a rush to finish it so I can start doing music videos before I started showing .I spend 24 hours for months sleeping on a couch with my pregnant depressed ass in a studio . I wasn’t even thinking of winning or even the Grammies. All I can think about was ...everybody is disappointed in me,am I still going to have a career after this baby ? Is this album going to make me or break me ? I need to finish before I start showing . All while I just separated from my long time manager.I had to get my husband to talk to my label cause I never had a relationship with them so we all came together to relocate me to Atlanta and Miami to finish my album before my stomach start showing. When i kept seeing the certifications of the songs going gold or platinum I was so excited cause my husband was out here asking everybody for a feature on my behalf so the ones that said yes thank you from the bottom of my heart cause TRUST ME ALOT OF ARTIST SAID NO! OR CHARGING 6 figures for a feature. So when I won a Grammy for it I didn’t have no words to say but when I went home I started reminiscing on what I went thru during that period I was like YEA BITCH YOU DESERVE THIS SHIT !abd until this day my shit still charting . When I won Nipsey said on a comment to me WHEN IS YOUR TIME IS YOUR TIME! Now when I speak to upcoming artist or people who ask me for advice I tell them the same thing ! WHEN IS YOUR TIME IS YOUR TIME and when it comes don’t let nobody take that special moment away from you !

This is not the first time Cardi has spoken about this process. Almost immediately after Cardi won her Grammy, people started to whisper that her album was not as good as the other projects in the category. Critics even questioned how much effort the rapper really put into making the project because she's been open about having ghostwriters. By the next day, these murmurs grew into a full-on scream leading Cardi to explain her work ethic.

"I'm seeing a lot of shit today and I saw a lot of bullshit last night... I work hard for my motherfuckin' album. I remember last year when I didn't win for 'Bodak Yellow' and everyone was like 'Cardi got snubbed...' Now it's a motherfuckin problem?!," Cardi said in a now-deleted Instagram video following the ceremony in February. "I locked myself in the studio for 3 months, my n***a. Didn't go to sleep in my bed sometimes for four days, pregnant... while everybody was harassing me like 'You can't do it...'"

She then posted a screenshot of Chance the Rapper congratulating her on her win. In the caption, she goes into detail about the recording sessions leading up to Invasion of Privacy.

"Slept in the studio on leather sofas for 3 months straight , migraines , in Atlanta in Miami away from my family," she wrote. "on top of that I was [depressed] cause everybody was suspecting I was pregnant and I constantly kept reading cardi you 'STUPID' 'YOU RUINED YOUR CAREER' 'WHY WOULD YOU HAVE A BABY AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR CAREER.' My album went #1 and spend 21 weeks straight on billboard top ten ! Every song is gold or platinum or higher. I listen to my album and I cry because I know the hell I went thru doing the album is always a bittersweet memory. THANK YOU EVERYONE THAT SUPPORTED ME AND LISTEN."
