Billboard revealed on Monday that Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's "WAP" has topped the Hot 100 chart. This gives Megan the second No. 1 single of her short but illustrious career while securing Cardi's fourth No. 1 record. "WAP" also made history en route to hitting the top of the charts.
The single pulled in 93 million streams in the U.S. Not only is this the most weekly streams of 2020, but it is also the most streams any track has generated in its first week since Billboard started including YouTube generated content into its streaming numbers.
Like the song's feminine forward lyrics and video, "WAP" proved to be a monumental moment for women in music. "WAP" scored the second-greatest streaming week among songs by women in the chart's history. It also set the record for most on-demand streams for songs created by women with 54.7 million. Additionally, "WAP" speaks to the dominance women have in the music industry as of late. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion teamed up for the ninth Hot 100 No. 1 credited to two or more women and no other acts—four of these nine tracks came this year.
