The 2016 Billboard Music Awards was an unforgettable night, filled with great performances from the likes of Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Kesha and many more.

The Weeknd was the first artist to accept an award, winning Top Hot 100 Artist and dedicating his speech to the late Prince. He talked about Prince's last television appearance at the American Music Awards, and how much that experience meant to him.

Justin Bieber also won Best Male Artist. He accepted the award after performing “Company” and “Sorry” off his latest album, Purpose.

The night continued on as Nick Jonas and Tove Lo performed their duet of “Close” and Demi Lovato did “Cool for the Summer." Kesha’s return to television was a triumphant moment, performing a cover of Bob Dylan’s “It Ain’t Me, Babe,” which she previously previewed at Ben Folds’ show in Los Angeles. Kesha’s tribute received a standing ovation.

After an introduction by Seal, Céline Dion was the recipient of the ICON award, which was given to her by her son, Rene-Charles. The Canadian singer thanked her family and fans, and then dedicated her performance of Queen’s “The Show Must Go On” to her late husband and former manager René Angélil.

Rihanna was also a performer at the BBMAs, where she sang a powerful rendition of “Love on the Brain.” She won the Billboard Chart Achievement award, saying that she felt “very lucky to be up here receiving this award.”

The show’s finale was Madonna’s tribute to Prince. Questlove introduced her with a heartfelt speech about Prince that included a moment of silence for one of music’s greatest pioneers. “I want to take a moment to remember the great Prince Rogers Nelson. It can be a moment of silence here in the air but in our heads it should be anything but silent," he said. Madonna started by singing “Nothing Compares 2 U.” She was later joined by Stevie Wonder for a duet of “Purple Rain.”
