Nicki Minaj isn’t listening to critics who are disturbed by the fact that she featured her ex-con boyfriend in her new music video “MEGATRON,” TMZ reports.

Nicki’s boyfriend, Kenneth Petty appears throughout the video, in scenes that are overtly sexual. People are upset because Petty was convicted of attempted rape and manslaughter. When he was 15, he used a sharp object against a 16-year-old girl while trying to have sex with her—and is a registered sex offender. He also shot and killed a man in 2002.

According to TMZ, sources close to Nicki say she’s indifferent toward the criticism, using the video’s millions of views since its release on Thursday as justification that fans like it. “She's happy and in love and he's not going anywhere,” insiders told the outlet.

The video is a tribute to Nicki and Petty’s relationship, “meant to mirror the affection they have for each other,” TMZ writes. The love scenes were also reportedly shot on the first take to keep it authentic. At the time of this post, “MEGATRON” has garnered over 4.4 million views since it dropped on Thursday.

Earlier this month, Nicki ended her Twitter hiatus with a cryptic message that simply read “MEGATRON,” fueling speculation that new music was around the corner. Just like the song, the visual relies heavily on dancehall vibes. We see Nicki partying at a club, dancing in front of a green Lambo—which she later sets on fire—and hitting the sauna with Petty. The contrast of neon lights and tropical background is reminiscent of her 2014 video for “Anaconda.”
