Saweetie has released a statement on the newly leaked footage of her and Quavo’s elevator altercation.
“This unfortunate incident happened a year ago, while we have reconciled since then and moved past this particular disagreement, there were simply too many other hurdles to overcome in our relationship and we have both since moved on,” Saweetie’s spokesperson shared in a statement on her behalf. “I kindly ask that everyone respect my privacy during this time.”
The footage, which was reportedly captured in 2020, shows the former couple in a physical altercation in an elevator. The video shows Saweetie take a swing at Quavo as she attempts to remove a gaming console from the elevator. The Migos rapper attempts to retrieve the case by grabbing her arms and pushing her back in the elevator, causing Saweetie to fall to the floor. Quavo then stands in front of the elevator door in an apparent effort to stop her from leaving. The elevator door opens seconds later, and Quavo exits before placing the case in the doorway. Saweetie eventually picks herself up and exits slowly behind her now-ex-boyfriend.
The Los Angeles Police Department is reportedly investigating the video, which was taken at an apartment complex where Saweetie was renting a unit. Law enforcement sources told TMZ officers are seeking to speak with both parties to determine what exactly happened in the moments leading up to the physical altercation.
The footage began circulating just weeks after Saweetie confirmed her split from Quavo. She declared her single status on Twitter and explained she had been “emotionally checked out” for quite some time. Saweetie also suggested Quavo had been unfaithful during their relationship, which reportedly began in 2018.
Quavo issued a Twitter response shortly after.
