Lil Nas X's "Old Town Road" Blocks Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber From No. 1 Spot (UPDATE)

Lil Nas X's viral hit "Old Town Road" is expected to retain the No. 1 spot for the seventh week.

UPDATED 5/20/19 1:35 p.m. ET: As expected, "Old Town Road" has retained the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the seventh week in a row, besting Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber's new "I Don't Care," which opens at No. 2. Lil Nas X's Billy Ray Cyrus-assisted megahit now stands as the first song in history to bag more than 100 million streams in the U.S. in six separate weeks.

Billie Eilish, meanwhile, has now earned her first top 5 hit with "Bad Guy" jumping to the No. 4 spot.

Also on Monday, Lil Nas X said his upcoming EP currently stands at seven songs long. Among the songs confirmed for the final tracklist are "9," a collaboration with blink-182's Travis Barker.

It seems not even the world's biggest pop stars can dethrone Lil Nas X.

According to industry forecasts, the rapper's hit single "Old Town Road" is expected to lead the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a seventh week. The track, assisted by Billy Ray Cyrus, is projected to garner more than 80 million U.S. streams, 80 million airplay audience impressions, and 40,000 downloads sold in the week ending May 16. This would block Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber from securing another No. 1 debut, as their collaborative track "I Don't Care" is expected to land at the No. 2 spot with 30 million U.S. streams, 40 million in airplay audience, and 60,000 downloads in its first week.

Future #Hot100 forecast: @edsheeran & @justinbieber's "I Don't Care" is projected to debut at No. 2 next week, behind @LilNasX's "Old Town Road."

This week, "Old Town Road" managed to maintain the No. 1 spot by fending off Shawn Mendes' new single "If I Can't Have You." And in the week before, the country trap record bested Taylor Swift's much anticipated single "Me!," which hit No. 2 after its first full week of tracking. (Swift's song, featuring Brandon Urie, debuted at No. 98 after just three days of airplay.)

"Old Town Road" will likely receive another boost this week once Lil Nas X releases the official video.

The 20-year-old rapper is now working on an EP, which will reportedly precede his debut album.
