You've probably heard ASTR, because you've heard their cover of Drake's "Hold On, We're Going Home." Because it's been everywhere, is why. But they aren't a Drake cover band, or a cover band, period. Far from it.
In fact, the New York City electro/R&B duo's first EP, Varsity, is taking the city by storm, less for anyone else's infectious hooks than their own dynamic, catchy, and sharply tuned soundscapes. The duo, made up of singer Zoe Silverman and producer Adam Pallin, hooked up through Yoga lessons, and have been brewing their unique sound ever since. Call it electropop, or R&B house, but whatever it is, it's fairly incredible. And all of this goes without mentioning their remix work, too (like a recent Big K.R.I.T. track). We spoke to the duo about their tunes, paving a new lane, and not being pigeonholed as "that band that covered Drake song that time."
