Fresh off the release of his new EP The Big 3, Roddy Ricch isn’t shying away from putting himself in the conversation about being the biggest rapper of his generation.

During a recent interview with Power 106, the Los Angeles lyricist was asked to name the “Big 3” of his generation, with L.A. Leakers Justin Credible defining Roddy’s era as artists who are currently between the ages of 20 and 25.

Roddy didn’t waste time making his picks, offering up himself, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, and Kodak Black.

It didn’t take long before Roddy’s comments sparked a debate on social media, with NLE Choppa chiming in to question why he wasn’t mentioned in the conversation.

Granted, Justin Credible and Roddy were strictly focusing on rappers between the ages of 20 and 25, which makes 19-year-old Choppa ineligible. Nevertheless, the Memphis MC took to Twitter to argue his case, pointing out that his age is a reason why he should be considered in such a conversation.

“Best under 25. It’s crazy to not mention me when you realize I’m only 19,” Choppa wrote. “You don’t have to like my music but my numbers are undeniable. 16 Gold And Platinum Plaques, 6 Songs Over 100M, 6 Billion Streams Worldwide, Sold Out Tour In US, Also Currently Selling out EUROPE TOO.”

He continued, “You can’t compare me to no n***a. I’m literally the youngest doing it and it ain’t one person at my age done what I’ve done so far. Everybody else got at least 3 years on me average. Then it’s me 3 years in the game and I’ve already did more than some n***as whole career.”

It’s worth noting that another rapper Roddy mentioned, YoungBoy, previously claimed he doesn’t see himself in competition with some of his contemporaries, including Ricch, Lil Baby, and DaBaby. In an interview with Elliot Wilson back in September 2020, YB said there isn’t any rivalry between himself and those artists.

“It ain’t none of that,” he told Wilson. “You could never compete with a person. None of those people determine [what I do] or I determine where they gon’ go. What they make and all that shit don’t concern what’s going on over here and anything different. I don’t know what to say about that, but shit, no.”

The Baton Rouge rapper added, “Everybody great at what they do, and it’s all different. We all different.”
