Offset will complete the trilogy of solo Migos albums on Dec. 14 with his debut full-length, and in a new interview with the New York Times he spoke about what influenced the material. From the sounds of the piece, he's slowing down somewhat to offer a different side of himself, hitting topics like his estranged father and his relationship with his wife Cardi B. (Oh, and it's executive produced by Metro Boomin, who just went No. 1 with Not All Heroes Wear Capes.)

"I’m going to start opening up more," Offset explained, before divulging more details about his upbringing. Offset reportedly hasn't seen his father since he was a 5-year-old, and it's something he raps about on numerous solo tracks. Carlos Desrosiers, who works as an A&R for Motown Records, simply told Offset, "Give ’em substance, give ’em you."

But it appears the father of four is inspired by Cardi B more than anything or anyone. “I’d seen her potential, her vision, her grind. Whatever she does, she’s going to master it. She’s like me. She brings excitement and pressure to me, but I like that,” he explained. “She’s No. 1, so every time I’m hitting the charts, I’ve got to be Top 10.” He also offered up a particularly promising Cardi tease: "We haven't even dropped an album yet. That's a whole other realm."

He maintains that settling down was "the best thing that's happened" to him, while mentioning that he's probably going to continue making music for at least one more decade. "I have a wife and a child—that changed my whole everything. I was a young hothead, but now I understand the value of life."

Elsewhere in the profile, Offset's mom revealed that the rapper used to dance for Whitney Houston and TLC.
