During a recent episode of Drink Champs, Snoop Dogg claimed that 2Pac’s “Got My Mind Made Up” was originally intended to be a Nas track. Now Daz Dillinger, who produced it, has responded to the claims in a video shared to YouTube.
“There’s a lotta n***as out there giving wrong information,” said Daz in the clip above. “I was looking at the Drink Champs the other day, Snoop was explaining about that Nas verse. Whole situation wrong, he was never ever on ‘Got My Mind Made Up.’ The original person that was on ‘Mind Made Up’ was me, Kurupt, Method Man, Redman, Inspectah Deck, and the Lady of Rage.”
The version that saw the light of day did not feature Lady of Rage, and Inspectah Deck’s verse was mostly cut and repurposed into an outro.
“The song he was talking about, which was ‘Don’t Stop Keeping Going,’ I’ma play it for y’all,” Dillinger continued. “Nas was on this first, I took it to Death Row and 2Pac heard it without me being there and put himself on there. And I said, ‘Fuck that, let me put this out.’”
The song has circulated as a bootleg for years, but Dillinger wanted to clear the air following what Snoop claimed about “Got My Mind Made Up.”
“Nas brought me two verses on this motherfucking song,” Daz continued. While playing the track, he noted that he was really on his “fuck Death Row shit” at the time he made the record. It’s unclear if 2Pac’s version of the song has seen the light of day or remains unreleased or unfinished.
“Guess who was on the song first…Nas,” said Snoop on Drink Champs. “Yup. I’m telling you the truth! Nas came over Daz's house, and got on the song first. Then Redman and Method Man got on that song, then Tupac got out the pen and Daz gave it to Tupac and took cuz verse off, but left Method Man and Redman on there."
He implied that Dillinger might still have the files. Prior to Snoop telling this story, it was widely believed the song was created with Tha Dogg Pound’s debut album in mind.
