Drake’s Certified Lover Boy is making The Boy look more like a certified chart lover.
After CLB earned the biggest week for any album since Taylor Swift’s 2020 effort Folklore, Drake’s latest collection of tracks is also putting up numbers on the Billboard Hot 100.
With the entries announced on Monday, CLB tracks are taking up the nine of the top 10 spots of the Billboard Hot 100, the most any artist has landed in history, and adding yet another charting achievement to Drizzy’s indestructible resume. Before today, four albums were tied for having the most top 10 hits on a single offering with seven: Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814, Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA, and Drizzy’s 2018 effort Scorpion.
But reaching this achievement came with a No. 1 hit for Drake, as the Future and Young Thug-featuring “Way 2 Sexy” earned its place at No. 1. Drake now becomes the first artist in history to simultaneously debut in all of the chart’s top five positions. Only the Beatles have had five tracks take up the entirety of the top five before Drizzy, and that was in 1964, according to Billboard. He now ties Ariana Grande for most No. 1 debuts in Hot 100 history, as they each have five.
Also featured in the top 10 below his chart-topper, Drake lands “Girls Want Girls” with Lil Baby at No. 2, “Fair Trade” with Travis Scott at No. 3, “Champagne Poetry” at No. 4, “Knife Talk” with 21 Savage and Project Pat at No. 5, “In the Bible” with Lil Durk and Givēon at No. 7, “Papi’s Home” at No. 8, “TSU” at No. 9, and “Love All” with Jay-Z at No. 10. Justin Bieber and The Kid Laroi’s “Stay” holds on at No. 6 this week.
As for the rest of the album, Drake placed all 21 songs off his massive new record in the top 40 of the Hot 100. And he now joins Mariah Carey, Rihanna, and the Beatles as the only musicians in the chart’s history to spend an entire year at No. 1, with “Way 2 Sexy” earning him that 52nd week at the top.
The album’s chart-topping song is Drake’s ninth No. 1 single and saw 67.3 million streams in its first week, the second-biggest streaming week to a song this year, only falling behind Olivia Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License.”
These Hot 100 placements also mark milestones for Drizzy’s CLB co-stars. Jay-Z is now only the second artist to score a top 10 hit in each of the last four decades, next to Mariah. “Jail,” Hov’s Donda collaboration with Kanye West, technically debuted in the top 10 last week at No. 10, but the features on Donda were not credited on the chart. Young Thug also has a big week to celebrate, with his third No. 1 coming from “Way 2 Sexy,” which is Future’s first. As ChartData shares, Future now celebrates the longest wait for a No. 1 in Hot 100 history after finally sitting at the top following 125 total chart entries.
Of course, the album itself had an easy road to No. 1 on the Billboard 200, as it sold a steady 613,000 equivalent album units in its debut week. CLB saw 743.67 million on-demand streams during the week, with 28.84 million video on-demand streams. The only record to reach a higher streaming total in a week was also from Drizzy, as Scorpion landed 745.92 million streams.
This was all expected, after Certified Lover Boy became the most-streamed album on Apple Music in a day and set the same record on Spotify. The album dethroned Kanye West’s Donda for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200, after Donda previously set the 2021 first week record of 309,000 equivalent album units. Yeezy now sits at No. 2 on the chart, after landing two songs within the Hot 100’s top 10 last week.
It’s been quite a year for Drizzy on the Hot 100. CLB’s chart entries come after Drake already landed a 1-2-3 punch on the chart in March with his Scary Hours 2 offering, with all three songs taking up the top spots on the Hot 100 and marking the first time that’s ever happened.
After asking “What’s Next” for his charting success, it’s clear Drake delivered with CLB.
