With his long-awaited debut album Montero set to arrive on Friday, Lil Nas X stopped by the Breakfast Club and revealed two features he wanted on the project but couldn’t get.

Montero features collaborations with Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat, Jack Harlow, Elton John, and Miley Cyrus, but originally X reached out to both Drake and Nicki Minaj to see if they would be interested in collaborating.

“Nicki and Drake,” the “Industry Baby” artist said at the nine-minute point of the interview when asked if there was anyone he wasn’t able to connect with. “No reply from Nicki, Drake was still working [on Certified Lover Boy].”

Hearing that Nicki never responded, DJ Envy brought up Lil Nas X’s past as a major fan of Minaj and Charlamagne tha God asked if Nas ever threw shade at her. “I’ve never slandered Nicki,” X replied. “There’s like a lot of things going around, but you know, I don’t respond to any of it so it’s like…’cause then it’s just gonna keep being brought back up.”

While he didn’t get a response from Nicki, it would appear Drake was interested in collaborating. “Drake replied. … He was still working on Certified Lover Boy, and whatnot, and he was 100 percent focused on that. This was like a few weeks ago, and I understood completely, and he said he’s down to do something, but just not the right time, he was trying to get his own shit together.”

Asked if he had any particular track in mind for Drake, X replied he wanted to get the 6 God on “Dolla Sign Slime,” which features Megan Thee Stallion.

At the 12-minute mark, Lil Nas X answered whether he has a “responsibility” because he has so many young fans. “I feel like I used to, but now it’s just like, ‘So? Like, fuck your kids.’ … We really get one chance to do this, at least to my knowledge, I don’t know what happens when we die or whatnot. So it’s like, I’m not about pander to your kids, or you. … I even have to do this with my family members, like, because my family members may not always agree with what I’m doing.”

Later, he was asked for his thoughts on offensive comments both Boosie Badazz and T.I. have made about him in the past, with the former sharing some particularly hurtful remarks about the rapper for simply expressing his sexuality.

"I don't really care, I wish they didn't say it, I guess," X said at the 24:40 point up top. "But I like the music, I'm gonna listen to the music.”

The subject of Boosie was also broached on Lil Nas X’s interview on Ebro in the Morning. Asked if he would ever respond to any of Badazz’s trolling—in a Shade Room comment section, for instance—Nas replied, “Only if I have something really witty.”

Ebro asked if the “Old Town Road” hitmaker would be up to work with Boosie at some point, but he kindly shot down the idea.

"I'm into forgiving people, but I'm just generally not interested in making a song with him," he admitted. "That's nothing against him, that's just not my vibe you know."

Watch both interviews with Lil Nas X above, and look out for Montero when it drops this Friday.
