They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Yet, this isn't the case if the artist who inspired the work isn't properly credited.

On Sunday, IDK took to Instagram where he shared the cover art of his album IWASVERYBAD next to a promo image for Netflix's The Innocent Files. There are clear similarities between the two. First, they both depict a person (for IWASVERYBAD it was IDK) with his back to the camera wearing an orange prison uniform. Yet what makes it seem like Netflix was influenced by IDK was the use of the white dove, which appears on both the album cover and in the promo image.

it’s not even like a piece that was inspired by your album art. that’s one thing but this is just a really shitty ripoff lol

IDK's IWASVERYBAD was released in 2017. It details his trials as a youth and the time he spent in jail. Netflix's The Innocence Files premiered in 2020. Per the streaming service, the series "unravels missteps and deceit in a series of wrongful convictions, exposing the injustice inflicted on victims and the accused." The similarities in subject matter, as well as the critical acclaim IWASVERYBAD received, makes it hard for fans to believe that Netflix was unaware of IDK's cover art before releasing its poster.
