Making good on his promises to release a new track every single week of 2020, Novelist has now dropped off the Silencer-produced "Pay What Is Owed" and the visuals to last week's "Different Shoes".
"Different Shoes", with its grainy, DIY visuals, was a sure-footed drill cut with plenty of thump behind Nov's cerebral, almost stream-of-consciousness drill flow. Its follow-up, produced by Silencer, is a little harder to pin down. Somewhere in the interesection between grime, rap and drill, "Pay What Is Owed" is more of a club-ready mantra with hints of grime's eerier moments and the directness of rap and drill.
It's only three weeks into Nov's impressive undertaking, and we're already seeing some interesting sides to the Lewisham don. Who knows what could happen in the next 50 editions.
