Watch Freddie Gibbs and Madlib Perform 'Bandana' Songs on NPR's Tiny Desk Series

The El Michels Affair provides backing assistance for the performance, which is (of course) great.

For their excellent NPR Tiny Desk performance, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib were joined by El Michels Affair.

As NPR's Abby O'Neill explains, securing the New York funk and soul outfit for the performance ultimately resulted in the episode being "a year in the making," though the results certainly make it worth the effort.

Bandana songs "Education," "Gat Damn," "Soul Right," and "Freestyle Shit" are given the live treatment here.

Bandana, rightfully, has been a frequent mention among year-end discussions of Best Albums. On the Complex ranking, the joint album came in at No. 2, with Shawn Setaro noting the album's chief strength of being both "accessible and challenging."

Speaking with Complex earlier this year, Gibbs himself noted the album's unique status among 2019 releases.

"There's definitely not an album like this," he said. "I think a lot of guys are influenced by [previous album] Piñata. I fathered a lot of styles off that album. And I'm about to have some kids when this album comes out."
