A couple months ago, rising rapper 2KBABY caught our attention with soulful, heart-on-his-sleeve songs like “Old Streets” and “Dreaming.”

At the time, he told us he was sitting on a large stash of unreleased music that included collaborations with artists like Sonny Digital and DaBaby. Now, after sharing a “Playing Games” remix loosie late last month, he’s back with another song from that stash. It’s a catchy track called “Betta,” produced by Danny Hajj, Jesus of Lit Gang, and G Koop.

“I really want this song to remind people never to lose faith during long periods of tribulations,” 2KBABY tells Complex. “Keep your head up day to day. Everything is going to get better.”

Keeping with the positive theme of the song, the single arrives with a Joshua Valle-directed music video, in which he hands out cash on the streets of Los Angeles and attempts to bring some happiness to the community. “The idea behind the video was to spread positivity and the message of doing ‘betta,’” he explains. “It was dope putting smiles on strangers faces and hearing some of their stories. Everyone has a story. It made me realize how blessed I am, and seeing the reactions made me want to be even betta. Even small good deeds go a long way. You don’t know how to live if you don’t know how to give.”

Check out the premiere of the video up top, hear the song on streaming services, and read our full interview with 2KBABY here.
