Following a series of singles earlier in the year, Royce da 5'9" has recruited T.I., Cyhi the Prynce, Sy Ari da Kid, and White Gold for "Black Savage." Released as part of JAY-Z and NFL's Inspire Change Songs of the Season series, the song will make appearances throughout the NFL season across braodcasts, pre-game shows, post-game highlights, and across digital streaming platforms.
Name-dropping Black Sabbath, Biggie, Nas, and Kendrick Lamar, Royce delivers the sharpest verse on his song. "Black Savage" follows the release of his politically driven single "Field Negro," which saw the rapper take shots at Kanye West, Wale, and Tory Lanez.Â
âIâm honored to have âBlack Savageâ be selected for Inspire Change and the Songs of the Season,â Royce da 5â9â said. âMusic has always been a form of expression for me, so for someone to tell me my music inspires them, that means everything to me.â The song will also appear on Royce's currently untitled, eighth solo studio album.
Royce recently dropped a behind-the-scenes documentary on how "Black Savage" came together. "This record in particular, I don't want to use the word difficult," he explained. "It was a challenge. I've never made beats before. I was a member of Slaughterhouse, and I was the one responsible for other parts of the song, other than my verse. Crooked really likes the way I hear thingsâlike 'Yo, have Royce touch my vocals.'"
