In a new episode of The Bumbu Room, Weezy described his worst habit (around the 9:20 minute mark): “Staying up to work too long and not ever being finished with whatever I started, whatever song I’m doing—not ever being finished in the studio,” he said via Billboard. He added, “Every song that I ever put out was unfinished.”
He also discussed how he can’t listen to his music that's already dropped. “I can't listen to songs that are out already until I put it on a setlist for my show,” he says. “That's when I have to listen to the song because I have no idea what the words are… That's the only time I got back and listen to it because… simply I'm working on other stuff.”
When it comes to listening to hip-hop though, Weezy only listens to one person. “I listen to music that’s not hip-hop all the time because I don’t listen to no other hip-hop but my damn self. And I only listen to myself.” Otherwise, his music taste is pretty diverse, which includes Anita Baker, Keith Sweat, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Judas Priest, Nirvana, and Blink-182.
Even though Weezy’s a seasoned rapper, he’s pleased with how hip-hop has been evolving throughout his career. “I love it,” he said. “I love that it actually changed because back in the [day] you had to spit your heart out. Now it's let's just make something that's cool to hear, we don't have to listen to it. Listening is different than hearing.”
