TMZ has learned that Ariana Grande filed a lawsuit against Forever 21 over the company's use of her name and likeness without her permission to sell their products and promote their makeup brand.
Grande claims her team was engaged in negotiations in December with the beauty brand Riley Rose, a company started by the daughters of Forever 21’s founders, to create a joint marketing campaign. Talks fell through two months later, when the singer's asking price couldn't be met. The suit alleges that Forever 21 and Riley Rose still went ahead and published at least 30 unauthorized images and videos that could have led consumers to believe the company had Ari's endorsement.
Grande accuses Forever 21 and Riley Rose of further deceiving customers by hiring a model who bears a striking resemblance to the pop star while also using the look, audio, and lyrics from her hit single "7 Rings" as part of their promotional campaign.
Grande is seeking $10 million in damages.
Ariana's lawsuit couldn't have come at a worse time for Forever 21, which is reportedly nearing a bankruptcy filing as the company continues to work with their financial advisers and lenders in "a last-ditch effort to restructure its debt."
