Tay-K's murder trial took place this week, and on Friday the 19-year-old rapper was found guilty of murder and robbery, as NBC Dallas-Fort Worth reports.
Earlier this week Tay-K pleaded not guilty to the charge of capital murder, a more serious charge which carries a mandatory 40-year sentence. Most famous for his song "The Race," which he released as he was on the run from authorities, Tay is facing somewhere between five to 99 years in prison.
Tay, real name Taymore Travon McIntyre, was accused of participating in a home invasion in 2016 that led to the murder of 21-year-old Ethan Walker. He was first arrested in July 2016 on capital murder charges at the age of 16 alongside six other people. He was later placed on house arrest until certification hearings were to be held, but before that he and another suspect cut off their ankle monitors and went on the run.
He was captured in May 2017 on the same day he released "The Race," which peaked at No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100. While on the run, he allegedly attacked 65-year-old Skip Pepe in Cravens Park, Arlington. In April of the same year, he was accused of being involved in a murder that took place in San Antonio. Tay was accused of being in the same vehicle as the person who shot and killed 23-year-old Mark Anthony Saldivar.
The six other defendants involved with the case have been found guilty or reached plea deals. As a result of Saldivar's murder, Tay is also facing a second capital murder charge in Bexar County, Texas. The victims and their families have also filed lawsuits against the rapper and his label.
