Citizen Kay makes music to make you feel good, hence his success so far supporting acts like Danny Brown on tour and playing festivals like Groovin The Moo. His sound mixes dance, funk, soul and hip-hop together in a gleeful manner, bringing a sense of enthusiasm and happiness to a somewhat melancholic trap climate. “Ego” is a continuation of his growing sound.

“Ego” is a song devoid of just that. There’s a flurry of synths that soar over a funk-soaked bassline, with driving drums reminiscent of something Kaytranada would produce. Citizen Kay’s flow floats smoothly over the instrumental, as he vulnerably ponders themes such as ego and his love/hate relationship with money. It’s a bright dance track contrasted by food-for-thought lyrics and themes.
