Ariana Grande doesn't seem to love barbecue grills as much as she appeared to yesterday.
On Wednesday, the 25-year-old singer posted a photo of her newest tattoo, which was intended to spell out the name of her hit single "7 Rings," but as Twitter users pointed out, "七輪" actually translates in Japanese to a small charcoal grill. In lieu of her mistake, Grande explained that the tattoo was rather painful and she decided not to include the other characters needed to spell out the title of her latest track. She also made a point to inform her followers that she is a "huge fan of tiny BBQ grills."
Despite her casual reaction to a very permanent error, Grande seems to have added more Japanese characters to her palm.
The Singer posted a photo of her updated tattoo on Thursday, telling her fans, "slightly better. thanks to my tutor for helping me fix and to @kanenavasard for being a legend. and to my doctor for the lidocaine shots (no joke). rip tiny charcoal grill. miss u man. I actually really liked u."
Grande also included a screenshot of a conversation she had with her tutor, who advised the singer to add the character for finger "指" above and in the middle of the "barbecue grill" text.
While Grande did include the Japanese character for "finger," she did not take into account her tutor's note about the placement, as her addition was inserted underneath the original text. As Japanese is read from top to bottom, and from right to left, the suggestion her tutor made wasn't arbitrary, since placement can alter the meaning of a phrase. Thus Grande's "輪♡七指" tattoo technically now translates to "Japanese BBQ finger ♡."
There doesn't seem to be a consensus as to whether or not Grande's addition is better or worse, but Twitter is definitely having a field day with it.
