Drake and Kanye West have had a long and complicated relationship. Since meeting each other years ago, the rappers have gone from good friends and collaborators to full-on adversaries. It's been a wild ride full of disses, allegations, apologies, and make-ups. Though the feud had seemingly died down over the past couple of months, 'Ye reignited the beef via Twitter, when he suggested the Toronto rapper was a fake who had yet to apologize for his alleged wrongdoings.
In effort to provide context to this ongoing saga, we've decided to breakdown all the times Kanye has publicly put Drizzy on blast. And, no, it's not all Pusha-T-related.
During the Sacramento stop of his Saint Pablo Tour, Kanye took aim at Drake and DJ Khaled by accusing them of payola. 'Ye pointed to the artists' "For Free" single that was getting heavy rotation on the radio.
"Is it just me or did you hear that song so many times?" Kanye told the crowd. "You say you wanna play for free. Aye, aye. You know what it is, though? Because aye, I love Drake. I love Khaled. But they set that song up, bro."
In the years following Kanye's payola accusations, the rappers' friendship went through some ups and downs; however, the situation intensified when Pusha-T released "The Story of Adidon," a scathing track that revealed Drake had a secret son.
There were whispers King Push found out about Drake's child through Kanye. But the Yeezy rapper insisted the rumors weren't true.
"I'm 'Ye. I got major things to do other than be telling him some information about Drake," he told 107.5 WGCI in August. Kanye went on to say he had no problem with the OVO boss, but claimed Drake became angry with him over a beat.
"People be around your family and be in your house and this and that then, they get mad about a beat and send purple demon emojis," he said. "I don't play like that, I don't play in that place... It's like, look, it ain't no beef."
About a month after the WGCI interview, Kanye hit up Instagram to address the whispers that Drake and Kim Kardashian were, at one time, romantically involved.
"The fact that is people making rumors or thinking that you fucked my wife and you not saying nothing and carrying it like that, that don’t sit well with my spirit," Kanye said in a video posted online.
'Ye also accused Drake of fueling the rumors with the "In My Feelings" lyrics: "KiKi do you love me?"
"If I had a girlfriend from Chicago, her name was Renita, and then you was married to Rihanna, I wouldn’t make a song called "Riri,'" Kanye continued. "So when you're like, 'Oh I don't know where that comes from'—you too smart for that. You know where that come from. Don't make a record with nothing that can be confused."
There's a lot to unpack in the Drake vs. Kanye saga, which is littered with jabs and denials. One of the biggest moments of the feud took place in mid-October, when Drake shared his side of the story on LeBron James' show The Shop. It was at that time Drizzy accused Kanye of manipulation, backstabbing, and exploitation; however, on Thursday afternoon, Kanye claimed Drake had reached out to his team to secure a sample of "Say You Will"; 'Ye suggested the move proved Drake was being fake.
While the specific reason for Drake's request is unclear, it's quite possible that it has to do with his 2009 breakout mixtape, So Far Gone. The project includes "Say What's Real," which uses Kanye's "Say You Will" beat. Keep in mind, the 10-year anniversary of So Far Gone is Feb. 13, 2019.
Kanye didn't stop there.
In the tweet storm, 'Ye accused Drake of "trying to take food out of his" children's mouths. Kanye was referring to a line in Drake and French Montana's "No Stylist" track, in which the OVO rapper dissed the Yeezy Boost 350s, one of 'Ye's sneaker designs.
Kanye went on to say Drake was taking subliminal shots in Travis Scott's "Sicko Mode."
Kanye didn't point to a specific line, but many believe Drake was taking aim at the G.O.O.D. Music boss in the following lyrics: "I still got scores to settle, man/I crept down the block/Made a right/Cut the lights, paid the price/N***as think it's sweet, it's on sight."
According to 'Ye, Drake had more bars for him that didn't make the final cut.
Kanye continued to criticize "Sicko Mode."
After reiterating that he wasn't the one who told Pusha about Drake's child, Kanye continued to demand an apology. A proper apology.
He also claimed Drake was trying to fight with him while he was struggling with mental health issues.
During his Toronto concert several weeks ago, Pusha-T was forced to leave the stage after people in the front row started throwing containers of liquid in his direction. Though Push walked away uninjured, the incident resulted in a serious brawl. One person was hospitalized with life-threatening stab wounds.
On Thursday, Kanye implied Drake funded the attack.
After making several pleas, Kanye tweeted that Drake had finally called him.
Kanye didn't provide details about the call, but his next tweet suggested the feud wasn't over.
Kanye claimed Drake had been targeting him for the last two years. He wrote that the "bullying" started when Drake bragged about his pool size in "Summer Sixteen." You remember the lines: "Now I got a house in L.A., now I got a bigger pool than 'Ye/And look man, 'Ye’s pool is nice, mine's just bigger's what I’m saying."
Kid Cudi was eventually brought up. Kanye accused Drake of being disrespectful toward people with "mental health conditions." He seemingly referred to the track "Two Birds, One Stone," in which Drake fired shots at Cudder.
"You were the man on the moon/Now you just go through your phases," Drizzy rapped. "You stay Xanned and Perc'd up/So when reality set in you don't gotta face it [...] It seems like nobody wants to stay in my good graces/I'm like a real estate agent, putting you all in your places/Look what happens soon as you talk to me crazy/Is you crazy?"
The track was released shortly after Cudi had checked into rehab for depression and suicidal urges.
After claiming Drake had tried to threaten him over the phone, Kanye suggested the Scorpion rapper only confronted people who didn't pose a risk.
Kanye said Drake would never "talk tough" to someone like J. Prince, the Rap-a-Lot Records CEO who encouraged Drake to stop engaging in the Pusha-T drama.
