Ray J on Kanye and Nick Cannon Drama: 'That's Some Macho-Macho Kind of Stuff'

Like Taylor Swift before him, Ray J would like to be excluded from this narrative.

In the words of Taylor Swift before him, Ray J would like to be excluded from this narrative. No, it doesn’t matter that his name was never brought up, the singer is making a point to keep himself out of any Kanye West vs. Nick Cannon drama.

To be fair, Ray J was asked about the situation byTooFablikely because, you know, that sex tape that made Ye’s wife Kim Kardashian famous years ago. "What they're going through, I don't know," he said. "That's some macho-macho kind of stuff that I don't wanna be a part of."

He's talking about last week, when Kanye addressed some problems he had with Cannon, as well as Drake and Tyson Beckford, in a series of Instagram videos. The concerns all had something to do with comments about Kim, and Cannon came back hot.

"First off, let me say: Welcome back, 'Ye, from the Sunken Place. It's a beautiful thing [...] nothing but love and respect for you. You know I've always had that," Cannon said on IG. "But I honestly gotta say this, my dude: I've never said anything disrespectful or harmful, in my opinion, to your marriage or your union; I salute it, keep it going. But you not gonna tell me what I can and what I can't say. I'm a solid individual, and if somebody asks me a question, I'm gonna answer it to the best of my ability."

Since then, the two have reportedly shelved their beef, and all is back to normal. Though his name wasn't alluded to during this process, Ray J distanced himself from the situation a bit further.

"I haven't really been paying attention to the back and forth between [Kanye and Nick] or me, I have to grow up and be my own man and look out for my own family and make sure that my wife and baby are comfortable with what I'm saying. So if that affects them then it affects me,” he continued.

Maybe in his younger years, Ray J would have interested himself into the drama—he did once release the aptly titled track “I Hit It First”— but the singer decided to let us know those days are behind him.

"I've been disrespectful over the years in my career because I was living a young, turnt up life," he said. "I've said a lot of crazy things about a lot of stuff. Looking back, I wouldn't take anything back, but looking forward, I wouldn't do it again. I would definitely think twice before I speak and take everybody's feelings into consideration and not just mine."

That’s nice, Ray.
