London-based songwriter and producer Jess Bartlet has been hard at work lately working under the name Island Fox. The project sees Bartlet explore a range of sounds to come out with something genreless and eclectic, inspired by her own passion for sci-fi, fantasy and video games. The latest offering is "Comrade", a hugely colourful piece of lo-fi electronica with a soulful, indie sensibility. Between the twinkling electronics, shoegazey FX and dreamy vocals, "Comrade" (which comes from a three-track EP of the same name, due Aug 9 via Life After Death and AWAL recordings) suggests an EP that could mark out Bartlet's Island Fox project as a formidable creative entity which could be taken in any number of directions.
