This holiday weekend supplied two new projects to an already scorching-hot summer of hip-hop. Future shared hisBEASTMODE 2 mixtape, coincidentally on Russell Wilson and Ciara’s anniversary, and Meek Mill released his EP Legends of Summer.
According to Chart Data, Future and Zaytoven’s nine-track joint is expected to push 50k to 60k album equivalent units, and the project is only available on streaming services (meaning no pure album sales to boost the numbers). Meek’s 4-song EP, which includes his single “Stay Woke” with Miguel, is expected to sell 22k to 26k album equivalent units its first week with 4k to 7k of those as pure sales.
Legends of Summer also includes “Millidelphia” featuring Swizz Beatz, “Dangerous” with Jeremih and PnB Rock, and “1 am.” BEASTMODE 2's only feature is Young Scooter on “DOH DOH”
Drake’s Scorpion is expected to take the top spot on the Billboard 200 its debut week, and will probably maintain that position for a while if it performs anything like his last few projects (so far the numbers say it will). But it’ll be interesting to see where Meek’s EP falls on the charts given that this is his first project since being released from prison during his ongoing, highly-publicized battle in court.
Both of these projects are teasers to full-blown albums fans hope will come out sometime later this year. In the meantime, Future will be hitting the road with Nicki Minaj in late September for the NICKIHNDRXX World Tour.
