Drake Thanks DeMar DeRozan for Being an 'Incredible Captain and an Even Better Friend'

Drake, arguably the Raptors' biggest fan and unofficial dad of Toronto, paid tribute to DeRozan in a long Instagram post after news that he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. He also welcomed the "poised clinical warrior" Kawhi Leonard.

On Wednesday morning, news broke that the Toronto Raptors would be trading All-Star DeMar DeRozan for San Antonio Spurs player Kawhi Leonard.

Drake, arguably the Raptors' biggest fan and unofficial dad of Toronto, paid tribute to DeRozan in a long Instagram post. “To my brother @demar_derozan I want to say 10 million thank you’s on behalf of YOUR city. You are a fixture in Toronto forever and you gave everything you had,” he wrote. “Through your leadership we had the most exciting years in franchise history.”

DeRozan is reportedly upset about the trade package, which also includes Danny Green and Jakob Poeltl, claiming he was lied to by the Raptors. "Be told one thing & the outcome another. Can't trust em,” DeRozan wrote on his Instagram story. “Ain't no loyalty in this game. Sell you out quick for a little bit of nothing... Soon you'll understand... Don't disturb..."

It'll be interesting to see what this huge trade package manifests in the coming months, and how each All-Star adjusts to their new teams, until then hopefully we can all remain as optimistic as Drizzy for the 2018-2019 season.
