Global Citizen's Mandela 100 concert hits Johannesburg, South Africa this December with a fittingly stacked lineup.
Beyoncé, JAY-Z, and Pharrell are headlining the free (i.e. costs you exactly zero dollars) concert at FNB Stadium. Oprah has been tapped as this year's keynote speaker, with Rolling Stone reporting that Tyler Perry and Naomi Campbell will also serve as hosts for the Nelson Mandela-honoring event.
They'll be joined by additional performers including Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder, Coldplay's Chris Martin, Femi Kuti, Usher, Wizkid, and more. Entry will be available for those who used the Global Citizen social advocacy platform to earn free tickets, per a press release. Ticket-acquiring methods will be detailed further Aug. 21.
"Nelson Mandela's life story is a testament to the power of the human spirit and one man's ability to change the world by standing up for what he believed in," Oprah Winfrey said Monday. "It is one of the great honors of my life to have spent so much time with him, and I look forward to celebrating his courageous life." Kweku Mandela, one of the late Nelson's grandchildren, added that he is "proud" to be part of a movement aimed at driving "real change" through "citizen power."
A "Global Citizen" is defined as someone who believes united action can help bring extreme poverty to an end around the world. Previous campaigns have included free show partnerships with Green Day, Kendrick Lamar, and others. For more info, click here.
