Things may still be a little rocky between Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, but the “Sorry” singer can at least claim all is well with one of his several celebrity exes. In a new interview with U.K. newspaper The Times, model and Drop the Mic host Hailey Baldwin informed us that all the weird, post break-up awkwardness between her and Bieber is a thing of the past.
“Justin and I were friends for a long time,” the 21-year-old said, according to People. “I met him when I was really young and he was one of my best friends. Everybody knows that at a certain point in time that turned into something else, but that just happens when you’re 18, 19. It was what it was.”
She goes on to admit that after the break up the two ”went through a long period of time when we weren’t friends.” “We didn’t speak for quite some time and there was a lot of weirdness that went on,” she continued. “We’ve moved past that.”
It’s not clear when the pair’s friendship turned into a star-crossed romance, but all rumors were confirmed when Bieber posted a photo of them kissing on New Year’s Eve back in 2016.
But the relationship, according to Baldwin, was “weird.” Luckily, the two were able to salvage their friendship after the split. “It brought both of us to the realization that we just work much better as friends,” she said. “He’s somebody I really cherish. Now it’s a very mature situation. It’s good.”
