The definition for "the gift of gab" is "the ability to speak with eloquence and fluency." Known for releasing dizzying quantities of music over the past three decades, the term is a fitting title for E-40's 25th solo studio album.
The 50-year-old Bay Area legend took to socials this weekend to announce that The Gift of Gab will arrive on June 29.
The Gift of Gab will follow E-40's April 2018 collaborative album with B-Legit, Connected And Respected. His most recent solo albums were 2016's The D-Boy Diary: Book 1 and The D-Boy Diary: Book 2, which continued E-40's long-running habit of dropping multiple albums at once.
In a 2017 interview with Pigeons & Planes, E-40 commented on his deep catalog and explained, "You got to listen to my [entire] discography to understand. You got to go back and do your homework, which people are lazy and don’t want to do. They want to give it to the most recent motherfucker because they don’t like doing their history."
"You have to look into it, you can’t just go back five years," he added. "If you want to be a guy that’s genuine about being a hip-hop artist, you’ve got to do your homework, read up on your history too, you feel me? Well I advise you to, if you really want to be in the history books you got to read up on the history of hip-hop."
While you prepare for The Gift of Gab to arrive, you can dive into E-40's deep catalog on Spotify and Apple Music. Just make sure to clear out a few days to properly get through it all. Or at the very least, revisit his 1996 single "Captain Save A Hoe" below.
