Cardi B Responds to Azealia Banks' Criticism: 'Leave Me Alone'

Banks tells Cardi to "do better sis."

Azealia Banks is taking more shots at Cardi B.

On Friday morning, the Harlem artist appeared on The Breakfast Club, where she discussed a wide range of topics, like Donald Trump, Kanye West, upcoming music, as well as her previous criticism of Cardi B. Banks told the show's hosts she was concerned that Cardi’s persona was harming the culture, as the Bronx rapper was simply a “caricature of a black woman.”

“Two years ago, the conversation surrounding black women’s culture was really reaching an all-time high, and we were really like discussing our power amongst ourselves, and, you know, Beyoncé came out with Lemonade. There was just this really, really, really intelligent conversation going on nationally and then everything just kind of changed and then it was like Cardi B,” Banks said. “I’m just talking about this caricature of a black woman that black women themselves would never be able to get away with. Like, if my spelling and grammar was that bad, I’d be canceled. If Nicki Minaj spelled like that, we would be ragging on her all day.”

Shortly after the interview aired, Cardi hit up social media to call out her critics. The Invasion of Privacy rapper expressed her frustration over the double standard about the way male and female rappers are expected to behave.

Why is it that male rappers can speak how they want act how they want but people constantly bash me for it ? Why do i feel like i have to apologize for being who i am ?talking how i talk and being what ya call “Ghetto “ wtff .LEAVE ME ALONE !

Of course, Banks had to respond. She reiterated her disappointment with Cardi’s actions, claiming she was not setting a good example for her black female fans. Banks also included yet another dig at the rapper's English, while also suggesting Cardi was promoting unsafe sex.

Though Banks has made several attempts to discredit Cardi, there was a very recent time when she had nothing but love for the mother-to-be in a 2017 interview with XXL magazine, in which she applauded Cardi’s music and her personality.

The internet never forgets.
