The Roots frontman Black Thought recently took to Instagram to officially announce his upcoming EP with producer 9th Wonder, Streams of Thoughts, Vol. 1, which drops on June 1.

When the rapper made the official announcement during Grammy weekend, he explained the album would be the "first in a series of joints" he'll be releasing under the same title and new volumes. "Be on the lookout for the music that we about to hit y’all with," he added.

While he's most recognizable as a founding member of one of rap's most important groups, his solo debut has been in the works for nearly two decades, with the previously recorded album Masterpiece Theatre scrapped in 2001, and later in 2013, The Talented Mr. Trotter never coming to fruition. With a Hot 97 freestyle that went viral at the end of 2017, it seems the Philadelphia MC took the reigns on his solo work yet again.

This wouldn't be the first time Thought and 9th had worked together, releasing the song "Making A Murderer" in 2016 alongside Styles P. The single was just a one-off, but it was an excellent foreshadowing of what was to come.

The rapper is likely also still working on another album with The Roots called End Game. Questlove previously told HipHopDXthey had already recorded 263 songs for the album back in 2017, but there's still no word on the release date so far.
