Here's the Simple Reason Cardi B Doesn't Talk About Her Gang Affiliations

Cardi gives what is arguably her most Cardi interview yet.

Cardi B, fresh off an unforgettable Saturday Night Liveappearance and public confirmation of the coveted Green Day co-sign, will also be leading the national discussion all day Monday thanks to a new interview. (Then all night Monday as Jimmy Fallon's first-everTonight Show co-host.)

In a new GQ profile by Caity Weaver, Cardi discussed her Invasion of Privacy album sessions, upcoming wedding with Offset, thoughts on gun law reform, and alleged affiliation with the Bloods set Brims. For Cardi, the idea of openly discussing any such affiliation wasn't previously an option due to her desire to bag a record deal.

"I used to pop off with my homies," Cardi said. "And they'd say, 'Yo, you really get it poppin'. You should come home. You should turn Blood.' And I did. Yes, I did. And something that—it's not like, oh, you leave. You don't leave. Stripping . . . changed my life. When I was a stripper, I didn't give a fuck about gangs, because I was so focused on making money."

Cardi, who also likened repping these affiliations to repping one's zodiac sign, added that joining a gang today would equal a waste of time and money. "People always be like, 'Oh, Cardi never used to rep it when she wasn't making music,'" she said. "Yeah, because I already got signed. I can do that now. I'm smarter than what people think. There's so many things that I limited myself because I wanted a million-dollar contract. When I do interviews, I don't talk about it, because I will lose my endorsements."

Though the interview tucks in multiple paragraphs of Cardi speaking candidly about the affiliation topic, she also used the piece to talk about that aforementioned wedding (set for Atlanta's colder months in a year TBD) and that equally aforementioned need for gun law reform. Most compelling, however, just might be her assessment of this nation's presidential history. For Cardi, the only POTUS to have ever truly cared about making America "great" was Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
