For Lil Yachty, attempts at categorizing him as a mumble rapper simply do not apply.

"Because I'm the one who speaks up," Yachty recently told VladTV when asked about some considering him the posterboy for so-called mumble rap. "I've been going to all these interviews and I'm the one taking all the flack for everything because I be speaking, I be talkin," he said. "Nobody else say shit because nobody else give a fuck."

Yachty added that the term "mumble rap" itself doesn't bother him, though he disagrees that it has any relation to him or his work. "My voice is different," he said. Yachty also discussed Teenage Emotions, Lil Boat 2, the ease of his recent studio sessions, and his annoyance at people incorrectly assuming he's high. Catch the full thing up top.

Just last week, Yachty responded to Smokepurpp's assertion that he's "sooo underrated" by predicting that he could likely out-rap 75 percent of his "new generation" peers. "I never said i was a lyricist boi," Yachty said in a series of tweets that have since been removed. "I ain't tryna be.. but i can rap. i can stick wit folks ona track I'm not xan rapper."
