21 Savage has a wild life story. Among other things, the Atlanta rapper sold drugs out of his house in middle school, got expelled in seventh grade for bringing a gun to school, defended himself in gang shootouts, lost some of his best friends to street violence, and got shot multiple times before becoming an enormously successful rapper.
In an Instagram post on Tuesday, he reminded his fans of some of those things: "I been shot, stabbed, lied to, lied on, cheated on, hated on, betrayed, held back, left out, counted out, locked up, broke, rich, homeless, and everything else you can think of, but I still ain’t let it turn me into a fuck n***a."
Now that 21 has found success, he says, "Keep da money, cars, fame, and jewelry, and jus give me all the happiness I’ll be good forever."
It looks like he's changed his tune from a couple weeks ago when he tweeted that he's more focused on getting rich than being recognized as the best rapper.
Back in February, 21's manager Stone Mound Meezy did hint that he's moving away from flashiness, though, and is no longer wearing jewelry.
21's comment to "keep da money, cars, fame, and jewelry" in Tuesday's Instagram post also falls in line with some things he told XXL about his next album. He explained that "everybody rap[s] about money and cars," so he's going back to his gritty street style.
"I'm goin back gangsta," he says. "I don't be knowing what the fans want 'cause they want the 'Bank Account' music, but I don't know. I wanna get back on some gangsta shit 'cause I feel like everybody rap about money and cars. They say I rap about too much guns and shit, but that's what the hell be going on. That's what really be going on in real life. Everybody don't have a Bentley in real life. Very few people have Bentleys. There's a lot of people who got guns who ain't got shit."
