SZA grammys future

SZA fans were more than a little upset when the TDE star left the 2018 Grammys empty-handed. Though the R&B singer has stayed steadfast in her claim that she wasn’t distraught about losing—she told The FADER she already had low expectations going in—she admitted to GQ last month she was upset over disappointing her fans. "You feel like you're really falling short and you fucking failed [your fans]," SZA said.

Now in a new interview with Flaunt, SZA explained that she’s prepared to rise above the disappointment and work on her next project, which she says will be her last. “I’m still miserable,” she told the magazine. “My world got so much smaller so fast. I have so much to write about. I feel like I’m in a cage. I’m making the best album of my life for this next album and I know that...because it’s going to be my last album.”

The Ctrl singer was the most-nominated artist at this year’s Grammys, receiving nods for Best New Artist, Best R&B Song, Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best Rap/Sung Performance, and Best R&B Performance. In her interview with Flaunt, SZA sites people like Frank Ocean and labelmate Kendrick Lamar as examples of artists who dominated their second round at the award show. “God didn’t give me the Grammys, because he knows I would have quit,” she said. “Like ‘I have nothing else to do.’”

Will this next project actually be SZA’s last? Only time will tell, but it seems unlikely looking back on her 2016 resignation tweet. “I actually quit,” she wrote at the time. “@iamstillpunch can release my album if he ever feels like it . Y’all be blessed.”

There’s no news on when that album will see the light of day, but it could be the missing A project we’re waiting for to follow up her two EPs S and Z. The artist is going to be releasing a deluxe version of her platinum debut album, which she says will feature six new bonus tracks, but there’s no telling when that will drop either.

In the meantime, the singer is getting ready to go on The Championship Tour with the rest of the TDE in May.
