To quote Funkmaster Flex, he and Lil Yachty have had their share of "run-ins and bump-ins on the internet." However, any differences were recently set aside in the name of a new Hot 97 freestyle from the Sailing Team captain:
According to Flex, the plans for the freestyle came together during a chance phone encounter. "Me and @lilyachty have bumped heads many times," Flex said on Instagram ahead of dropping the full freestyle on the Hot 97 YouTube page Monday. "I called #ChrisGreen phone a week ago and #TheBoat picked up... he said 'let’s have an interview' ...... I said 'I don't really do interviews BUT you can come get some bars popping?' I didn't think he would do it.. but he called and said 'I'm ready... I'm coming up there.'"
Catch the full freestyle in the video up top starting around the 2:30 mark.
Way back in 2016, Yachty advised Flex to "take a chill pill" after being called out in the middle of an Oun-P freestyle. "It's easy to write a verse but how easy is it to make a stamp on the culture?" Yachty, whom Flex had tried to disparage as a "mumble rapper," said at the time.
Yachty released his long-awaited Lil Boat sequel Friday. Lil Boat 2, featuring appearances by 2 Chainz and Trippie Redd, sees Yachty largely ditching the pop-first vibes of the original in favor of something else entirely. The album will be supported by a number of festival appearances in the coming weeks, including Travis Barker's Musink alongside Blink-182 and Descendents.
He's also teased a "fully melodic" Yachty Forever EP:
