This time last year, Khalid released his debut studio album American Teen, and in the time since the now 20-year-old has enjoyed immense success that includes a platinum album, four platinum or multi-platinum songs, and five Grammy nominations, including a Best New Artist nod.

Complex News' Jinx linked up with Khalid while out at SXSW to get more details on the artist's meteoric rise. Alongside breaking down the importance of his debut album, Khalid also shared advice Kehlani once gave him about going on the road. "I was talking to her about going on my first tour, I was super nervous about it. I'm like, do you have any advice? She says one thing: 'Bring lots of underwear.' I do, so thank you Kehlani, because if you get it, you get it."
