Rising rapper Honcho Da Savage is looking to make big moves in 2018.

On Thursday, he delivered a new Bobby Johnson-produced single called “Blockbusta.” It’s a pretty fitting title, as Honcho has regularly compared his life to a movie.

Here’s a little background information for those who are unfamiliar: Honcho grew up in South Florida in a blended family consisting of 12 children. His love for music began at a young age, and led him to study rock acts like Green Day and Nirvana. Not too long after Honcho had started singing, he unfortunately experienced a severe accident in which his throat was punctured on a fence. He could no longer speak, let along sing; however, he wasn’t going to give up on his dream.

Honcho took matters into his own hands and taught himself how to preform again by watching YouTube videos and singing along to records by Nickelback and Lifehouse, as well as “the song that saved his voice,” “I’ll Be” by Edwin McCain. Though those aren’t the most typical inspiration for young rappers, they did help Honcho get a firm grasp of melody, and shape his unique, diverse sound. Honcho has delivered acoustic tracks as well as full-blown bangers. “Blockbusta” definitely falls under the latter category.

“My whole life been a movie from da concrete like a BLOCKBUSTA and I’m going to make it big like a motion picture,” he tells Complex. “Ready for the world to hear what I have been cooking up with my new project Parallel Universe coming soon!”

You can listen to “Blockbusta,” premiering exclusively on Complex, below. And stay tuned as more information about Parallel Universe rolls through.
