Lil Yachty Reveals Release Date for 'Lil Boat 2'

This will be his first project since last year's 'Teenage Emotions.'

Lil Yachty took to social media to reveal that Lil Boat 2—the sequel to his debut 2016 mixtape—is dropping on March 9. He accompanied the reveal with what's likely the album cover, which features our nautical hero giving a serious stare as he's standing in a body of water.

Yachty has been teasing that Lil Boat 2 was "coming soon" since last August. A New York Times piece on Lil Yachty's label, Quality Control, projected December as the project's release date, but the Boat remained docked as the month came and went. However, Lil Boat 2's release became imminent when Yachty said that the project was done during an Instagram Live session in early January.

In name, Lil Boat 2 has plenty to live up to, as the original debut mixtape featured "1 Night," which is still Lil Yachty's biggest hit. Lil Boat also included the "Minnesota" remix featuring Quavo, Skippa Da Flippa, and Young Thug.

Lil Boat 2 also finds Yachty trying to bounce back from Teenage Emotions, an album that was so much of a commercial disappointment, the young Boat himself had to address it. "I understand first week numbers didn't do what most people expected but that's only because they don't understand me," he said in a since-deleted Instagram post. "They don't understand us. I don't expect anybody to. I make it for those who listen. I feel like my brand is so big and blew up so big, it blew up bigger than my actual music."

But Lil Yachty ultimately wasn't hurting that much. He spent the rest of 2017 landing some key guest features, including on KYLE's top 5 hit "iSPY" and the Quavo team-up "Ice Tray." He even got booked at a Bar Mitzvah.

Lil Yachty is also expected to star in more projects this year in addition to Lil Boat 2, namely from the Yachty/Migos/Gucci Mane supergroup and that Lil Pump collaboration.
