Donald Glover's musical talent hasn't really made it into his onscreen endeavors since his role on Community, but writer Demi Adejuyigbe found a way to bridge the gap between Glover's role as Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Star Wars movie and his rap persona, Childish Gambino. Posted as faux leaked footage from Solo: A Star Wars Story, Adejuyigbe channels the rapper in the two-minute clip.
He might fall short on voice and flow, but you can't deny the topics are on brand for Gambino, from a cheap Scandal punchline to his fetishy obsession with Asian women. "Just caught a preview of Donald Glover's Lando Rap," the caption reads. "I hope Disney doesn't take this down!" In the clip, you can see director Ron Howard with a title card, and if not for the very Camp circa 2011-esque bars, you'd swear it was real.
Adejuyigbe is no stranger to jokes like this one, with his videos rapping as Will Smith dropping bars about Aladdin and spitting the credits of Arrival having gone viral before.
But he's switched his attention from one nice-guy rapper to another with his latest video.
Recently, Glover has said he's only releasing one more project under the Gambino moniker before moving on, so until that album finally surfaces this might be all there is to hold on to. In the meantime, Glover is most likely focused on the May 25 Star Wars flick, which finally released a trailer on Monday, and Atlanta Robbin' Season, due March 1.
