For her first new song of the year, Tinashe has linked up with Offset for a "No Drama" request. The track arrives a week after Tinashe hit Instagram to tease the impending release of a trio of new songs, presumably all set to be featured on her Joyride album.

In an interview with Highsnobiety last October, Tinashe clarified that the delay of Joyride—first teased all the way back in 2015—has nothing to do with her label. Once in a while, Tinashe explained, you just have to take a break to recharge. "Sometimes it takes longer, sometimes it just comes to you instantly, sometimes songs take weeks, months or years for people to complete," she said.

Tinashe's last full-length project was her 2016 album Nightride, featuring the Dream-produced single "Company." That same year, Tinashe popped up on Britney Spears' "Slumber Party" and GTA's "All Caught Up."

One album that continues to inspire Tinashe, as she revealed to Pigeons & Planes in November, is Janet Jackson's Velvet Rope. The text-free cover of the 1997 LP was what first intrigued Tinashe to give it a spin. "I remember putting it in and listening to the opening track which has all these helicopter sound effects, and I was just blown away by it," she said. "I love every song on that album, they're honestly all so different and diverse and versatile, but also they tell such an amazing story which is what I really love. Ever since the experience of discovering that album, listening to it, and being amazed, it's definitely changed my life and inspired me as I've created my own music."
