Kevin Gates is set to be released from prison later this week. Following his release, according to a new report from TMZ, Gates will be reaching out to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and similar organizations to share his story with teenagers in an effort to inspire them to avoid making the same mistakes.
Gates' lawyer Herschel Rush said Monday that Gates will be spending "considerable time and resources talking to troubled teens" following his release from an Illinois prison Wednesday. According to Rush, Gates will also be donating his own resources to "various organizations."
As previously reported, Gates is set to be released Jan. 10 after serving nine months on a felony weapon charge. Gates was originally hit with a 30-month sentence on the outstanding weapon warrant the same day he was released for serving time for a 2015 incident in which he kicked a woman in the chest during a show.
Back in September, Gates shared a message with supporters on Instagram. "Dear Loyal Family, disallow yourselves to be troubled in my time of absence," Gates wrote. "All of the great ones who came before and will come after me have had to go through this. By this I'm speaking in reference to hardship. A great person is measured by all of the great [tests] they can undergo and still remain true to who they are."
Gates' most recent release was the the 2017 mixtape By Any Means 2. The tape was preceded by the platinum-certified studio album Islah.
