In celebration of The Marathon’s seventh anniversary, Nipsey Hussle has cooked up a new track that reflects on the mixtape’s creation. The song is called “Been Down” and features Swizz Beatz.

Nipsey announced the release on social media Thursday, sharing the cover art captioned with a brief description: “7 years ago Today THE MARATHON was released. It’s been a long time coming but we did it OUR WAY,” he wrote. “Me and @therealswizzz Made a song about the Process...and it drops 2marrow On all platforms.”
The 2010 release marked Nipsey’s fifth mixtape and the inaugural installment of his Marathon series. It also inspired an upcoming retrospective book as well as the name of his streetwear brand, Marathon Clothing.
“The Marathon concept is just me just stepping outside of the situation an assessing it,” he told MTV in 2010, around the same time he was attempting to end his contract with Epic Records. “A lot of times you go through a situation where you didn’t get what you expected […] When it comes to us, we’ve been through this a million times—took losses and bounced back harder.”
Nipsey’s debut studio album Victory Lap is expected to drop Feb. 16, 2018.
