Highly influential emcee MF DOOM took to Instagram to mourn the loss of his son, Malachi Ezekiel Dumile. He was 14 years old.

"KING MALACHI EZEKIEL DUMILE 2/22/03 - 12/18/17," DOOM wrote. "THE GREATEST SON ONE COULD ASK FOR. SAFE JOURNEY AND MAY ALL OUR ANCESTORS GREET YOU WITH OPEN ARMS. ONE OF OUR GREATEST INSPIRATIONS. THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US TO BE YOUR PARENTS. LOVE YOU MALI."

At press time, there's no word on the cause of death. This public announcement is a surprising departure for DOOM, who is known for keeping his personal life close; he's only been seen in his signature mask for the better part of the last 20 years.

DOOM, who was born Daniel Dumile and originally rapped under the name Zev Love X, started out as a part of the group KMD. Group member Subroc, a.k.a. Dumile's brother Dingilizwe, was killed in 1993 just before the group's second album Black Bastards was set to be released. After a long hiatus, Dumile returned to rap in 1997 as his masked alter ego MF DOOM.

Our condolences go out to DOOM and the entire Dumile family during this rough time in their lives.
