Just days before releasing his new album Pressure, Jeezy took to social media to drop the tracklisting for the project. The album, which will run 13 tracks long, is stacked with features. Nearly every track has a guest.
Though artists such as Diddy, 2 Chainz, Tory Lanez, Rick Ross, Kodak Black, and Trey Songz will be on the album, there were two features in particular that set alarm bells off for a lot of people.
“#PRESSURE 12/15 pre order Now JeezyShop.com #TrustYaProcess"
People quickly noticed that the twelfth song in the track listing, a song called “American Dream,” will feature J. Cole and known Jeezy fan Kendrick Lamar.
Though there are no promises that the track will even feature full verses from Cole or Kendrick, fans understandably got excited.
“After seeing Kendrick and j cole on the same track”
“J. Cole and Kendrick is about to light that track up”
“young Jeezy got Kendrick and J Cole on one song and instantly I'm interested in what a rap album could bring to the game again.”
The long rumored Cole and Kendrick project has been on the minds of hip-hop heads for a while now.
In 2015, Cole and Kendrick dropped a pair of Black Friday freestyles with Cole rapping over Kendrick’s “Alright” and Kendrick rapping over Cole’s “A Tale of 2 Citiez.” The clamor for the joint project reached a fever-pitch. But nothing was released.
Then in 2016, while doing an interview on The Breakfast Club, TDE label-mate Ab-Soul remarked that he may have a feature on a Cole and Kendrick album.
When asked to elaborate about the project by Charlamagne tha God, Soul replied “I’m saying these guys move like the mob. You never know with these guys. I just hope they use my verse. They just need to use my verse.” When asked if the album actually existed, Soul said “They got it. They got something in the works. They’ve been working on that motherfucker for a while.”
Many people’s hopes were dashed this past summer when TDE co-president Terrence "Punch" Henderson sent out an unfortunate tweet. Punch responded to a person who asked “When Cole And Kdot dropping that joint project” with “Probably never.”
So far, Jeezy has dropped the singles "Bottles Up" with Diddy and "Cold Summer" with Tee Grizzley. Jeezy’s new album Pressure will be out on December 15.
Let’s keep our fingers crossed that we get to hear some proper verses from Cole and Kendrick and keep them crossed even tighter for a full album.
