Kat Dahlia took to her Instagram Saturday to announce that she has left Epic Records and is now an independent artist.

“I am honestly happier for it because now I feel like I can get back to what made me love creating when I started this—sharing music for people that want/need it,” Dahlia wrote. “I’m going to be putting up music for free when I write something in the studio that I️ feel like releasing, or music that’s just been collecting dust in a vault somewhere in the trenches of my laptop.”

She also teased new songs being released every Friday, starting next week, for what it seems like an indefinite amount of time.

A rep for Epic Records did not immediately return Complex's request for comment.

Back in 2013, Dahlia spoke to Complex about her influences and the struggles she faced before getting signed to Sylvia Rhone's Vested In Culture label, a joint venture with Epic Records. At the time, she voiced some concerns about the industry but was mostly excited to be finally getting an opportunity to put her music out into the world.

“I walked into this blindly. I’m still learning so much about the industry, realizing how hard it is, how two-sided it can be,” Dahlia said. “It’s stressful but it’s rewarding if you don’t focus on those things and just focus on the music.”

Dahlia’s newest song, “Addict,” was apparently her last on the Epic Records label. You can listen to it below.
