It only took one track to put Just Chase onto everyone’s radar. The Nova Scotian R&B singer may be relatively new to the scene, but he grabbed our attention earlier this year with an incredibly atmospheric single called, “EGO”. Produced by WondaGurl and SLMN, the excellent song is starting to getting spins on American radio and is still crushing it on streaming sites—as of writing, it has more than 15.4 million streams on SoundCloud alone. Not one to rest, the crooner delivered on his newfound hype this month with a dope visual treatment for “EGO” and another new joint, “Between Us”.

Now, and following the runaway success of his last two tracks, the SOS-affiliated artist is giving fans his first official mixtape. Entitled Killing Roses, the new project features ten soulful cuts and even a few uptempo bangers. The debut full-length, which has production credits from Hollywood P, Oz, Allan John and more, blends traditional R&B with a new school flavour that expands upon Chase’s strong sonic palette. Killing Roses dropped on November 12, which the singer reveals holds some serious significance.

Just Chase explains in liner notes that the timing of the release is a nod to his late mother. “I released my mixtape on my mother’s birthday, for those who are wondering why I’m releasing it on Sunday. It means the world to me and I know she’s smiling down, shining right now,” he stated. “I couldn’t have picked a better day. R.I.P, happy birthday mother, love you.”

Killing Roses is available on your favourite streaming platforms. You can also listen to the mixtape below on SoundCloud.
