Gone are the days where the producer was the forgotten ingredient in a song's success; these days (especially when it comes to hip-hop) producers are the new rock stars—and rightfully so. DJ Jenno Christian has a new mix series celebrating the producers who shape the sounds of popular music, and for the first installment the Toronto-based selector has started with someone close to home.
Murda Beatz is technically from Fort Erie, a small town in the Niagara region a couple of hours away from the city, but he reps "the 6" heavily, and—when he's not globetrotting around the world working with the biggest acts in music—can often be seen out and about around the city partying it up with his friends and rocking his trademark jewelry. Over the past three years Murda has established himself as one of the most in-demand producers in rap with placements with everyone from Migos to Drake to Nicki Minaj, as well as a strong tie to the city's underground with his affiliations with the Prime boys and work with 88Glam and Pressa.
